GE in Shoreline ramblers and beyond
Shoreline grew fastest in the 1950s, and its post-war ramblers have been remodeled one kitchen at a time ever since. When those kitchens were redone, a GE range and a GE side-by-side were common choices, and a newer generation of GE Profile and Café slide-ins now sits in the larger remodels of Innis Arden and The Highlands. About 44 percent of Shoreline homes heat with gas, so many houses already had a gas line near the kitchen, and gas GE ranges turn up from Ridgecrest to Echo Lake. GE refrigerators tend to be simple to diagnose, GE range parts are easy to source, and the brand’s washers, dryers and dishwashers fill rentals around Briarcrest and Parkwood.
The two GE calls we take most are ovens that won’t heat and ice makers that stop. A gas GE oven relies on a glow-bar igniter, and the gas valve opens only when that igniter pulls enough current; an aging one keeps glowing yet stops letting gas through, so the oven sits cold behind a bright igniter. Electric models burn out bake elements, and the electronic range control can lose a relay. On the refrigerator side, ice makers stall when the fill tube ices over or the inlet valve gives out, and side-by-sides warm up once the defrost system quits. GE dryers wear out their drum glides and rollers, while the washers go through lid locks and drain pumps. Each has a clear test.
GE by appliance
GE appliances we repair and what goes wrong
GE refrigerators & freezers
GE side-by-sides and bottom-freezers that warm up usually have a frosted evaporator from a failed defrost heater, thermostat or control, or a stopped evaporator fan. Bottom-freezer and French-door models add an air damper and a fresh-food fan to the suspects. We check each defrost part with a meter and listen to every fan.
Refrigerator repairGE washers
On GE top-loaders the usual failures are the lid lock, the drain pump and the mode shifter that sets the transmission to wash or spin, while front-loaders need door boots, locks and pumps. A washer that fills and drains but never spins usually has a lock or shifter fault. We use the service mode to watch each step.
Washer repairGE dryers
GE dryers that squeal or leave dark marks on clothes usually have worn front drum glides, the felt-backed slides that carry the drum. When an electric model runs cold, we suspect the element, the high-limit switch or the thermal fuse; on gas units, the igniter and the valve coils. We test each of those, then check how easily the vent moves air.
Dryer repairGE dishwashers
GE dishwashers that won’t drain usually have a jammed pump or a clogged filter, and those that refuse to start often have a worn door latch or a failing control board. A puddle at the door can come from oversudsing as easily as from a tired gasket. We check the pump, the latch switch and the inlet valve before quoting.
Dishwasher repairGE ranges, ovens & cooktops
Gas GE ovens with a glowing igniter and no flame need a new igniter, judged by current draw rather than by color. Electric ovens lose bake or broil elements, and glass-tops lose a radiant element or its switch. When the display shows an F-code, we test the oven sensor and the board relays that feed each element.
Range or oven repairGE ice makers
Freezer-mounted GE ice makers stop when the fill tube freezes, the inlet valve weakens or the module that turns the ejector fails. French-door models that make ice in the fresh-food door can frost up when the door seal or the cold-air duct falters. We test water flow, valve coils and the module’s motor.

How we read GE codes
GE oven controls show an F followed by a number when the board sees something it doesn’t like, such as an out-of-range sensor or a key that seems stuck. We treat it as a first clue, then read the sensor’s actual resistance or the keypad circuits’ continuity. GE washers and dryers have a service mode reached through a set sequence of button presses, which lets the technician run the motor, pump and valves one at a time. GE dishwashers often signal with flashing lights instead of words. Tell us the code or flash pattern on the phone and we can narrow the likely parts before arriving.
Around Lynnwood
GE in Shoreline and the towns north
Shoreline sits just south of the county line and drinks Seattle’s Tolt River water, soft at about 1.2 to 1.4 grains whether it comes straight from the city west of I-5 or through a local district east of it. That softness keeps scale out of GE spray arms and ice maker valves, so a slow fill points at a screen, valve or pressure. The Convergence Zone often parks over the King–Snohomish line, and its damp air shows up as sweating refrigerator gaskets in older kitchens. Edmonds and Mill Creek, where gas heat is even more common, keep us just as busy with GE gas ranges.
Warranty first
Check GE’s coverage before you call
New GE appliances carry the maker’s own limited coverage, and Profile and Café models are handled the same way, so check your purchase date first. If GE still owes the repair, go through them; there is no reason to pay us for work already promised to you. Interurban Appliance Pro is independent and does not act on GE’s behalf. Once that coverage has lapsed, we diagnose with a meter, write one price and put our own warranty in writing on the invoice.
Interurban Appliance Pro is a local repair company that operates apart from GE; the GE name only tells you which equipment we repair.
Questions
GE repair questions
My GE gas oven igniter glows but the oven won’t heat. Why?
The igniter in a GE gas oven does two jobs: it lights the gas and it warms a safety valve that opens only when enough current flows. As it ages it keeps glowing orange but stops drawing enough to open that valve. We measure the current with an ammeter, and when it reads low we can usually replace the igniter from the van on the same visit.
Why has my GE ice maker stopped making ice?
Start with the basics: the wire arm or ice switch should be set to make ice, and the water filter shouldn’t be months past its change date. Still nothing? Then the usual causes are ice packed in the fill tube, a stuck-shut inlet valve, or a worn-out ice maker module. Shoreline water is soft, so mineral blockage is unlikely, and our testing centers on those three parts: valve, tube and module.
Do you work on GE Profile and Café ranges in Shoreline?
Yes. Profile and Café ranges carry more electronics than basic GE models, including convection fans, warming drawers and sometimes induction tops, but the diagnosis follows the same order: read the code, test the part, confirm with a meter. We see them most often in remodeled houses in Innis Arden, The Highlands and Richmond Beach.
My GE dryer leaves dark marks on clothes. Is it worth fixing?
Usually. Those marks often mean the front drum glides have worn through and the drum edge is rubbing the front bulkhead. Glides, rollers and a belt are routine parts, and replacing them tends to quiet the machine too. We check the rear bearing and the drum seal at the same time, so the written price covers the whole job.
A neighbor in Echo Lake suggested you. Is Echo Lake on your route?
We are glad to hear it, and Echo Lake sits well inside our Shoreline stop. Pricing works the same for every customer, whoever recommended us: one diagnostic fee, quoted on the phone or after you fill in the request, then a written repair price from the technician before anything starts.
