Ice Maker Repair in Everett, WA
No cubes since the outage, a bin of fused ice, a dispenser chute packed solid, a tray that fills and never drops. Our Everett technicians trace the water path, fill tube and module before naming a part.
When a fridge's trouble sits in the sealed system, it gets fixed where the fridge stands: our EPA 608 Universal certified technicians locate the leak, braze it, swap a compressor or evaporator if needed and weigh the charge back in.

Ice makers and Everett power outages
The windstorm of November 19–20, 2024 knocked out power across the region, and Snohomish County alone counted more than 70,000 customers in the dark at the peak, plenty of Everett kitchens among them. When the power returns, the refrigerator restarts, but the ice maker is often the part that does not recover cleanly. Cubes in the bin melt and refreeze into a single block that jams the auger. The fill tube can ice over if the freezer warms and then refreezes around a drip. Some ice makers lose their place in the cycle and sit with a half-filled tray, and a control board that took a surge may stop sending power to the inlet valve. After every long outage, these calls arrive in a cluster, along with refrigerators that came back cooling poorly.
Most ice makers we service in Everett live in side-by-sides and French-door models, the usual choice in houses dating from 1980 through 1999, which make up about 31% of the city’s housing, and in kitchens across Valley View–Sylvan Crest–Larimer Ridge. Kitchens in Lowell and apartments near I-5 sometimes have a top-freezer model with an ice kit added later and a thin supply tube threaded through the cabinets. Everett’s Spada Lake water carries so little mineral that scale almost never clogs the valve or the fill cup. Undersized or hollow cubes point instead to a spent filter, a crimped line, weak household pressure or a valve worn by age. A freezer holding too warm a temperature will also slow production to a crawl.
Symptoms
Ice maker faults we see in Everett
No ice after a power outage
The tray may be stuck mid-cycle, the fill tube frozen, or the module confused by the interruption. We thaw the tube safely, cycle the module with its test function, and check that the board is sending power to the inlet valve.
Small or hollow cubes
Too little water reaching the mold, usually from a spent filter, a weakening inlet valve, a crimped supply tube or sluggish house pressure. We catch a fill in a cup to measure it, check the pressure, and meter the valve coil.
Ice fused into a block
The freezer warmed and refroze, most often after a power cut or a door that did not quite close. The bin gets emptied, the door seal and freezer temperature are checked, and if the freezer has run warm, the defrost system is tested too.
Dispenser chute jammed, auger silent
Ice wedged in the chute, an auger motor that has burned out, or a flap solenoid that no longer pulls. After clearing the chute we meter the motor and the dispenser switch, then check the tiny heater that stops the flap from icing closed.
Water leaking from the ice maker
A valve that leaks through when it should be closed, a split fill tube, or a cabinet tilted so water runs out of the mold. We level the refrigerator, check that the valve seals, and inspect the tube and its grommet.
Before you call
Four safe ice maker checks first
- Check that the bail arm is lowered or the ice switch turned on, and that the bin is pushed fully home.
- Swap the water filter if it is overdue, and confirm the shutoff feeding the refrigerator line is open.
- Look at the freezer temperature; ice makers slow down or stop when the freezer runs too warm.
- After an outage, empty a bin of fused cubes so the auger and the tray can move again.
Valley View · ice maker after the windstorm
A few days after the windstorm of November 2024, a household in Valley View still had no ice, though the refrigerator was cold again. The bin held a single frozen block, and the fill tube behind the ice maker was solid. The technician cleared the bin, thawed the tube gently, and cycled the module with its test function. The tray turned, but no water came. A meter on the inlet valve showed a burned coil, and a new valve from the van brought water to the tray.

Supply lines, outages and Everett ice makers
Everett’s mix of homes shapes how ice makers are plumbed. In houses, the supply line usually leaves the sink cabinet or rises through the floor from a crawlspace, and old self-piercing saddle valves on that line can narrow over time and starve the fill. Only about 44% of homes here are detached houses, and in the apartments and condos that account for most of the rest, refrigerators tend to be squeezed into narrow alcoves where the line folds when the unit is shoved back. Weather plays its part too. A long outage warms the freezer and freezes the fill tube, while a summer hot spell makes a refrigerator in a kitchen without air conditioning run hard enough to slow ice production. Soft water keeps mineral buildup low, so the diagnosis usually lands on valves, lines, filters and modules.
Brands
Ice maker brands in Everett kitchens
Built-in ice makers in Everett kitchens come mostly from Whirlpool, GE, LG, Frigidaire, Maytag and KitchenAid, in side-by-side refrigerators and French-door ones, with Kenmore units still common in houses and Amana in rentals. Some French-door models make ice in the door, which adds a separate fan, a seal and a heater to test. Built-in Thermador, Miele and GE Café columns appear in a handful of larger kitchens. We repair the ice maker inside the refrigerator, not standalone ice machines. Still covered by the refrigerator’s warranty? LG and Whirlpool count us as authorized service, so a covered ice maker repair on their refrigerators comes to us; for other makers, use their coverage first.
Questions
Ice maker questions from Everett
Why has my Everett ice maker been dead since the outage?
Outages are hard on ice makers. Cubes melt and refreeze into a block, the fill tube can freeze, and the module may stop mid-cycle. A surge when the power returns can also damage the control or the valve coil. Empty the bin and wait a full day; if no cubes fall by then, call or send the form and a technician will test it.
Does Everett’s soft water affect my ice maker?
Very little, and in a good way. Spada Lake water has almost no hardness, so mineral scale rarely blocks the inlet valve or fill cup. If your cubes are small or the ice maker fills slowly, a clogged filter, a kinked line, low pressure or a worn valve is the likelier cause, and that is what the technician checks.
Will you fix a standalone ice machine in Everett?
No. Our repairs cover the ice maker that lives inside a refrigerator, including the door-mounted ice systems on French-door models, but not standalone or under-counter ice machines and not commercial equipment. If the refrigerator’s own ice maker is the trouble, we diagnose it in your kitchen, and you have the repair figure written out ahead of any part coming out.
What will the ice maker visit cost me?
The visit comes with a diagnostic fee; our office gives the amount by phone. Like the written price and say yes, and that fee already lives in the repair total; it never appears twice. Prefer to stop there, and the fee covers everything for that call, with the test results and the part’s name included.
My neighbor in Everett recommended you. Does that help?
We appreciate the word of mouth. The pricing is the same for everyone: an Everett home pays the same diagnostic fee and gets the same written pricing as a Lynnwood one, whichever machine we end up fixing.
